S Club Pays Tribute to Bandmate Paul as Reunion Underway

The S Club 25th anniversary tour kicked off last night in Manchester with the group paying poignant tribute to Paul Cattermole, who died in April.

The show was a carnival of colour, fun and nostalgia, as the now-five-piece group ran through their 90’s and 2000’s hits like ‘Reach,’ ‘Bring It All Back’ and ‘S Club Party.’

At one point, footage of Cattermole performing ‘Good Times’ with S Club 7 was projected on the big screen as the band and crowd joined in for an emotional tribute.

"That's our brother right there, man. Gone but you'll never be forgotten. We miss you every single day," said band member Bradley McIntosh.

Cattermole died suddenly earlier this year of heart related issues. The remaining members of the band have since joined forces with the British Heart Foundation to raise public awareness of underlying heart conditions.

"You know what we've been through this last year," McIntosh told the Manchester crowd.

"It's been so tragic, it's been so sad. But we've got you guys, and we're here for you and we could not have done it without you guys," he added.

Original member Hannah Spearritt had originally intended on joining the S Club 7 reunion, but dropped out following Cattermole’s death.

She said that her mental health deteriorated significantly as she began suffering from vertigo, panic attacks and exhaustion.

The pair were romantically involved for several years in the early 2000s.

She said that none of her fellow S Club 7 members have spoken to her since she decided not to tour with them.

"I’ve not spoken to any of them since I left, which is fine.

"I was extremely excited — we all were — to get back as a seven,” Ms Spearritt recently told The Sun.

"But then Paul died and everything changed. It gave me time to reflect on whether it was the right thing for me to do.

"I’m really sad we aren’t in touch. They’ve gone their way and I’ve gone mine. I wish them all the best," she added.

Remaining members Tina Barrett, Jon Lee, Rachel Stevens, Bradley McIntosh and Jo O'Meara bring the S Club reunion to Dublin's 3Arena on Monday.
