It has been revealed that a healthcare worker tried to sell the Princess of Wales' private medical records.
This was described in a statement by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) as involving "highly sensitive personal information and an offer to disclose it for financial gain, representing a clear breach of trust".
The ICO who is the UK's privacy and data protection watchdog, have cautioned the employee from the London Clinic, who no longer works there, calling it a "deliberate misuse" of the Prince of Wales's private medical records in order to gain financially. They "concluded that a caution was the appropriate and proportionate enforcement response".
The watchdog added that no other failings were found at the London Clinic, which is one of the most prominent private hospitals in the UK, which also treated the Princess of Wales's father in law, King Charles for cancer.
In a separate statement, the ICO's executive director for regulatory supervision, Ian Hulme added: "People should be able to trust that the personal information they're giving to healthcare settings is safe and protected from exploitation".
Speaking about this latest issue regarding the attempted sale of the Princess' medical records, a spokesperson for The London Clinic said: "We all take considerable pride in delivering the very highest standards of care and discretion for every patient at The London Clinic".
"We are pleased our work with the ICO has brought this sad and isolated incident to a conclusion. There were no regulatory breaches by the hospital".
The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton had announced that she was diagnosed with cancer back in March 2024.
In a video which was posted online, The Princess of Wales described her diagnosis as a "huge shock", adding that her family had been through an "incredibly tough couple of months".
"In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous", Kate said in the video in 2024. "The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.
In January last year, Kate Middleton revealed that she was in remission for cancer, and had returned to official royal duties, saying in a personal message to other sufferers that they "are not alone", as she marked World Cancer Day in February.
Last May, the Princess of Wales also took her first trip abroad since her cancer treatment when she visited Italy.
