An investigation is underway after the assault on Abbeygate Street in Galway City in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to the Irish Independent, the man was walking home with a group of friends at 3am Sunday morning when he was punched in the head by a man who was unknown to the group.
The man who was assaulted was left with serious injuries, and gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The victim is currently being treated in hospital for non-life threatening-injuries.
A spokesperson for the garda force in Galway City said: “Gardai received a report of an assault at Abbeygate Street, Galway, at around 3am on 14 June 2026. A male, aged in his 20s, was approached by an unknown male and assaulted, causing a serious, but non-life-threatening injury. Gardai are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident to come forward."
