Newborn Baby Found Dead In Portable Bathroom At Michigan Music Festival

A newborn baby was found dead in a portable bathroom at a Michigan music festival.

Organisers of the festival named 'Electric Forest' and the Michigan State Police are now appealing for festival goers to come forward with information.

According to CBS News, an employee of the portable restroom company made the distressing discovery whilst doing a routine check of the bathrooms.

The official Instagram page for the festival released a statement, they said: "Forest Family, it causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you. @michstatepolice continues to investigate this tragic event if you can assist in any way. HQ is heartbroken and knows that our Forest Family is as well."

The Michigan State Police said in a statement that they are continuing to investigate the "discovery of a deceased neonate found Sunday morning in the camping area at the Electric Forest Festival."

Investigators are asking for the public's assistance as the statement read: "If you were in the area and observed anything unusual, or if you have information that you believe to be relevant, or if you have information that you believe may be relevant, we encourage you to come forward."

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Michigan State Police @ michigan.gov/michtip. We appreciate the public’s cooperation and ask that people avoid speculation on social media out of respect for the investigation and those affected," the statement continued.

The sold out event began on Thursday and wrapped on Sunday night (28th of June). The four day festival shut down on Sunday night, hours earlier than anticipated. Organisers stated that the early shut down was due to severe weather and resumed the event into early Monday.

The festival is held at the Double JJ Ranch, close to Lake Michigan every year.

This year's festival was the 14th incarnation of the event, inaugrated in 2008, with last year's event attracting 50,000 people.
