Puska Abandons Bid To Appeal Conviction For Ashling Murphy's Murder

Jozef Puska has abandoned his bid to appeal his conviction for the murder of Ashling Murphy.

Puska is serving a a life sentence for the murder of the teacher on 12 January 2022.

RTE revealed that Puska's lawyers told Judge Isobel Kennedy that he had "abandoned his conviction appeal" in the Court of Appeal.

The Judge confirmed that she received notice of Puska's decision to abandon the appeal and that "the conviction appeal has been abandoned".

Puska is serving a life sentence for the murder of the 23-year-old teacher. He attacked her and stabbed her repeatedly as she exercised along the canal towpath outside Tullamore, Co Offaly.

Puska stabbed her 11 times in the neck and slashed her once with the edge of a blade before leaving her to die, reports have revealed.

The 35-year-old man had denied the murder of Murphy but was convicted by a unanimous jury.

Five members of Puska's family have also been jailed for offences in connection to the murder. Puska's wife and brothers were convicted of withholding information from the gardaí.
