Galway County Council have issued 'do not swim' alerts for two Galway beaches.
The 'do not swim' alerts have been issued for Clifden and Whitestrand beaches.
Galway County Council announced that a significant amount of bacteria was found in water samples of both beaches.
The temporary notice was issued yesterday evening after water samples were taken on July 13th.
Galway County Council said: “Bathing is prohibited at both these beaches due to water samples taken on July 13 which had elevated levels of bacteria.”
“It is expected that this notice will be in place for one week with further sampling being carried out on July 16 where further advice will be provided following those results," they added.
