Ciarán Hinds is to star opposite fellow Irish actor, Paul Mescal in an upcoming stage production of the Tom Murphy play, A Whistle in the Dark by the Abbey Theatre and Britain's National Theatre.
The play, which was first staged in 1961, explores the story of Michael Carney, who settles in Coventry with his wife, Betty, trying to build a new life. But leaving Ireland does not set Carney free, and rows within the family soon begin.
This new production of A Whistle in the Dark, is to be staged at Dublin's Abbey Theatre from Wednesday, 13 October to Saturday, 30 October next year as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival, following its run in the National Theatre's Lyttelton Theatre in London. It will be directed by Abbey Theatre Artistic Director, Caitríona McLaughlin.
This will see Paul Mescal make his debut at Britain's National Theatre, playing the role of Michael Carney, as part of a cast which will also feature Eimhin Fitzgerald Doherty, Ryan Donaldson, Aisling Loftus, and Julian Moore-Cook.
Speaking about this upcoming production, Caitríona McLaughlin said: "I cannot wait to be in a room with this company of curious, intelligent, sensitive, and playful actors".
