A man has died following a collision between a car and bus along the Cork-Waterford boarder, which also injured more than a dozen others.
The accident occurred just before 8pm on Sunday evening, which saw a car and a coach crash into each other on the N25 Youghal to Dungarvan road, near Piltown, with the driver of the car pronounced dead at the scene.
This also marks another grim weekend on Irish roads, as four people died on separate accidents in Waterford, Wexford, Limerick and Meath. It also means that a total of 138 people have died on Irish roads so far this year, an 11% increase on the same period last year.
Regarding the latest accident in Waterford, the Irish Independent reported that it was a head-on collision, which saw the car sustain severe damage.
It was also found that more than a dozen people travelling on the bus were injured, but none of them are believed to be life threatening. A number of them were taken to hospital for precautionary assessment, having been initially treated at the scene.
Almost a dozen ambulances, garda cars and fire brigade units responded to the scene from Dungarvan and Youghal. The N25 was also closed in order to allow for the emergency services to carry out their work. It has since fully reopened.
“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward", Gardaí said in a statement this morning. “Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N25 between Grange and Pilltown Cross between 7:30pm and 8:00pm are asked to make this footage available to the investigating Gardaí".
