Irish comedian Joanne McNally received a standing ovation following her debut appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, delivering a 10-minute stand-up set that left the audience in stitches.
The Dublin-born star appeared on the NBC programme on Monday, 19 October, where host Jimmy Fallon introduced her and highlighted her upcoming Netflix comedy special, which is scheduled to be filmed on 7 November as part of the New York Comedy Festival.
Dressed in a sparkling black Adidas jersey, the 43-year-old comedian entertained the audience with her trademark humour, sharing candid observations about being single in her 40s, dating men and her inability to keep a secret.
Among the highlights of her set, McNally revealed that her favourite pastime was “lying in bed, covered in my own ‘chip’ dust”, before winking at the crowd.

She also shared her enthusiasm for watching Korean apartment-cleaning videos on TikTok, declaring, “Watching Koreans sanitise their apartments on TikTok – I love it! Hook it to my veins!”
Turning her attention to dating, the comedian joked about how she responds when men ask about her hobbies.
“Sometimes, a man will ask me on dates. ‘What do you like to do in your spare time, Joanne?’ I say, ‘Nothing, darling, because it’s spare,’” she said.
McNally continued by recalling how she used to mislead men to attract their interest, joking that when asked whether she enjoyed sports, she would reply, “Come here. I cycle menstrually. That’s enough for me.”
Her performance prompted enthusiastic laughter and applause throughout the studio. Once she had finished, Fallon rushed over to embrace the comedian, exclaiming, “That’s how you do it!”
The audience subsequently rose to its feet, prompting Fallon to celebrate the reaction with, “Come on, look at that! Standing O!”

According to Goss.ie, McNally's appearance also attracted praise from her famous friends. Her best friend and My Therapist Ghosted Me podcast co-host, Vogue Williams, described her as a “superstar”, while presenter Laura Whitmore shared her support, writing, “There she is! Proud 💚.”
The successful television debut followed a period of controversy surrounding McNally's decision to appear on the programme, after she faced criticism over Fallon's earlier decision to welcome Conor McGregor onto the show.
Fashion Times UK reports that McNally addressed the backlash in an Instagram post on Wednesday, 14 October, making it clear that she had no intention of withdrawing from the opportunity.
“He's ruined enough women's lives... I'll be taking the opportunity,” she wrote.

The criticism stemmed from McGregor's appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in June, despite a civil jury in Dublin finding the mixed martial arts fighter liable for sexually assaulting Nikita Hand in 2018. The verdict was delivered in November 2024, and McGregor's subsequent efforts to overturn the finding were unsuccessful. He has maintained that the encounter was consensual.
McNally's scheduled appearance alongside actor Chris Pratt, known for his role in Guardians of the Galaxy, and television presenter Andy Cohen placed her at the centre of the debate over the programme's decision to feature McGregor.
Despite the criticism, the comedian proceeded with her performance, using the appearance to showcase her stand-up comedy to an American audience.

The television debut also comes during the US leg of her Pinotphile comedy tour, as McNally continues to build her international profile following renewed attention from her involvement in the BBC reality series The Celebrity Traitors.
With her energetic performance, enthusiastic audience response and upcoming Netflix special, McNally's appearance marks another significant milestone in the Irish comedian's expanding career.
