Yesterday, music fans gathered in Newbridge, Kildare for the opening of the Michael Jackson exhibition, which celebrated the singer's music, fashion and legacy.

The event, titled, A Thriller of an Exhibition - Michael Jackson: A Fashion Legacy which was held at the Museum of Style Icons at Newbridge Silverware was opened yesterday by Michael Bush, a costume designer who had worked with The King of Pop for over 25 years.

Mr Bush met with fans and signed copies of his book, The King of Style: Dressing Michael Jackson.

This exhibition, which runs in association with Julien's Auctions, will run until November 8, and gives people the chance to view a collection of famous Michael Jackson costumes and memorabilia.

Such items include the the rhinestone-studded white glove worn during his performance of Billie Jean at the 1983 Motown 25 television special, an illuminated Thriller jacket worn by Jackson during his Bad World Tour between 1987 and 1989, and memorabilia associated with his works Bad, Dangerous and HIStory.

It was during this Bad World Tour that Michael Jackson performed in Ireland at Páirc Uí Chaoimh for the first time in July 1988, before returning in July 1992 for his Dangerous World Tour, where he played live in front of 40,000 people at Landsowne Road.

At the Kildare event, dancers from the local company, KNC Performing Arts performed Jackson's iconic Thriller routine, while Jackson's tribute act, Kyle Grayjuner also performed MJ's famous dance routines, including The Moonwalk.

Following this event, costumes and person items will be auctioned off at Julien’s Auctions’ Michael Jackson: The Fashion Legacy auction, which takes place at Rosewood Abu Dhabi on 7th December.

Prior to this, Julien's Auctions had hit world record prices for Jackson memorabilia, including a jacket used in his iconic Thriller music video, which sold for US $1.8 million in 2011 and the famous Motown 25 glove for US $430,000 in 2009.

Earlier this month, Michael Jackson hit number one in the best selling albums for 2026, with his collection, The Essential Michael Jackson, despite being released more than 20 years ago. Find out more on this here.
