Simon Harris is set to meet outgoing Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to discuss the transition of power later today.

The new Fine Gael leader is also expected to meet other coalition leaders later this week, ahead of his election to the Dáil on April 9.

Given that there is just a year until the next General Election, Mr Harris had stated over the weekend that he thinks the coalition needs to focus on what it can get done between now and then.

He also wants to speak with all Fine Gael ministers to find out what they believe can be achieved between now and the election.

Mr Harris wants to meet up with Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin, and the Green Party's Eamon Ryan to discuss the implementation timeline in the Programme for Government.

Opposition parties have stated that the best course of action is to call a General Election now.

However, Mr Harris wants the coalition to run its full term until March 2025, which has been supported by Ministers Martin and Ryan. He will meet with the outgoing leader Mr Varadkar later today, as he edges closer to becoming the next Taoiseach.
