Double Barbie Oscars Snub Leaves Ryan Gosling Bemused

Ryan Gosling has said that he is disappointed that his Barbie co-star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig missed on Oscar nominations in two major categories.

Gosling received a nod for Best Actor for his role as Ken in the box-office hit, while America Ferrera was nominated for Best Supporting Actress following her performance as Gloria in the same movie.

Greta Gerwig missed out on a Best Director nomination, while Margot Robbie missed out in the Best Actress category, but did get a nod for Best Picture as a producer.

In a statement shared by several outlets, Ryan Gosling spoke of his dismay over Gerwig and Robbie's major category snubs at this year's Oscars ceremony.

"I am extremely honoured to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films," Gosling said. "And I never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm also incredibly honoured and proud that it's for portraying a plastic doll named Ken".

"But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film".

Elsewhere, Ryan Gosling insisted that Robbie and Gerwig were "very deserving nominees", and said that it is an "understatement" that he is disappointed that they were snubbed.

"Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history", he added. "Their work should be recognised along with the other very deserving nominees". 

Barbie was also nominated for Best Original song thanks to the Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt ballad I'm Just Ken.
