Nicole Eggert, star of Baywatch, has been diagnosed with breast cancer, aged 51.

Throughout the 1980s, Eggert had recurring roles in hit TV shows like T.J Hooker and Who’s the Boss?, before landing a lead role in Charles In Charge, alongside Scott Baio.

She went on to star alongside Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff in the mega-hit Baywatch, playing lifeguard Summer Quinn between 1992 and 1994.

The Californian actor recently confirmed with People Magazine that she was diagnosed with stage 2 cribriform carcinoma breast cancer in December.

She said that receiving the diagnosis had been “rough,” adding that “inspirational quotes and corny stuff” had been helping her cope.

Ms Eggert will need surgery but is currently waiting on word from her doctors on whether or not the cancer has spread.

A friend of the TV star has set up a GoFundMe page to fund her treatment, saying "it's been a long time since Charles In Charge and Baywatch."

A message on the page said: "As a single mom, she's had to struggle financially to raise her two daughters.

"She still has a little one at home and she is terrified of not being able to afford the treatments and surgery necessary while also keeping a roof over their heads.

"She's lost both her parents and doesn't have any family to lean on or help her with this situation."

Ms Eggert has two daughters, Dilyn (25) and Keegan (12).

"[Dilyn's] an adult, but I have a 12-year-old at home where I'm the only caregiver. I have no family. I have nothing," she told People.

"This is something I have to get through. This is something that I have to beat. She needs me more than anything and anybody."

Eggert made headlines in 2018 when she accused her former Charles In Charge co-star, Scott Baio of sexually abusing her during production in the 1980s.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office declined to press charges against Baio, stating that the “statute of limitations to the crimes alleged by the victim have expired. Thus, the case is declined.”
