Liam Neeson is to star in the new reboot for the Naked Gun reboot.
Directed by Akiva Schaffer, who will also serve as executive producer, the reboot is to be released on July 18 next year. Schaffer also co-wrote the draft script with Dan Gregor and Doug Man.
The reboot will be produced by Family Guy's Seth McFarlane, and the Fuzzy Door production company. McFarlane had approached Neeson for the starring role, which came at a time when the Ballymena native had considered retiring from acting.
The film itself is a slapstick comedy, which looks at the exploits of Lieutenant Frank Drebin as he attempts to find the culprit behind the assassination plot of Queen Elizabeth in Los Angeles.
Originally released in 1988, the Naked Gun reboot has included a number sequels and brief TV show.
Rumours of a reboot which had been circulating since 2009, and named The Naked Gun: What 4? The Rhythm of Evil, were put on hold following the death of original star Leslie Nielsen in 2010.
