US rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs has publicly apologised after CCTV footage showing him attacking former girlfriend Cassie from 2016 emerged online.

Footage of the incident which was obtained by CNN, shows Diddy attacking Cassie in a hotel hallway in March 2016.

In the video, P Diddy is wearing a towel, as he punches and kicks Cassie in an incident which took place in a hotel hallway in LA on 5 March of that year. The footage also shows Diddy shoving and dragging Cassie, and throwing a vase in her direction.

After this footage emerged online, Cassie's lawyer Douglas H Wigdor issued this statement in response.

"The gut-wrenching has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behaviour of Mr Combs", he said. "Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light".

"inexcusable"

In a video posted to Instagram on Sunday, Diddy has apologised for the incident, describing the footage as "inexcusable" and has left him "disgusted".

"It's so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that", Diddy began.

He continued, "I was f***** up - I mean I hit rock bottom - but l make no excuses. My behaviour on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I was disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it. I'm disgusted now".

"I went and I sought out professional help. I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I'm so sorry. But I'm committed to be a better man each and every day. I'm not asking for forgiveness. I'm truly sorry".

This is not the first time that Diddy has been in hot water of alleged sexual and physical violence, having faced public allegations for such acts previously. His homes in Los Angeles and Miami were also raided by Homeland Security.

Last November, Cassie whose real name is Cassandra Venture, sued Sean Combs, accusing him of rape and violent behaviour towards her throughout their 10 year relationship. The suit was settled the next day.

However, it has since led to intense scrutiny for Sean 'Diddy' Combs who also went by the names P Diddy and Puff Daddy. He has been hit with a number of sexual abuse lawsuits, as well as a federal criminal charge of sex-trafficking, which led to Homeland Security raiding his homes in March.

While he has denied the allegations in the lawsuit, the video which was posted by Diddy is the first time that he or his representatives have responded to them directly, allegations which has threatened his reputation and career.
