Derry Girls was the most watched show in Northern Ireland last year, according a report published by UK media regulator Ofcom.

The report has stated that the sitcom which follows a group of teenagers working their way through Northern Ireland during The Troubles, is the most watched in the UK region, with the first episode of the final series being watched by more than half a million viewers on Channel Four.

Overall, the third season accrued over three million viewers.

Such was Derry Girls' popularity as a comedy, that it made Northern Ireland the only UK region, where a Channel Four programme appeared in the top 10 most watched. The sitcom was also awarded a Bafta for best scripted comedy among others.

Elsewhere, Northern Ireland was the only UK region where King Charles' Christmas Day Speech also made the top 10 list, becoming the 6th most watched show of 2022, averaging 292,000 viewers.
