First Images Of New Series Of The Crown Depict Diana & Dodi Growing Closer

The first images of the new season of The Crown have been released.

These images which arrived on Monday, depict the blossoming relationship between Princess Diana, and Dodi Al Fayed, showing the former Princess of Wales on Al Fayed's yacht.

Season 5 of the royal drama will show Mr Al Fayed getting to know the Royal Family, as well as inviting Diana and her sons William and Harry on the yacht, alongside his son Dodi Al Fayed. They were inevitably followed by the paparazzi. 

This new season will see Imelda Staunton star as Queen Elizabeth II, while Elizabeth Debicki will portray the role of Princess Diana. 

On playing the role of Dodi Al Fayed, Khalid Abdalla called taking up this role "the honour of my life to be part of this project".

Imelda Staunton added, "I’ve been living with her for a long time so, if anything, I felt more comfortable this time. I love her stillness and her ability to not be thrown by everything that must have constantly -throughout her whole life - gone on around her".

Prince Charles will be played by Dominic West, who also said, "I think he’s got real sadness to him and real compassion and what’s great about The Crown is that you see these public figures in private". 

"I suspect in private he’s quite emotional, well that’s the way I played him anyway… I think, hopefully, what comes out is compassionate but relatively well balanced", he continued. "I talked to a lot of people who have met him because he’s met a lot of people, he’s met probably more than anyone except the Queen and Prince Philip. Almost everyone has extremely warm, kind things to say about him". 

Other images also include Mr Al Fayed in an armchair, with Diana enjoying some time in the sunshine with her two sons, who are spotted in another image released by Netflix, showing the two princes with their father, who is wearing a dark green kilt ensemble and holding a shepherd’s crook.

The opening part of season 5 begins on November 16.
