A wax statue of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been ‘reworked’ after it drew criticisms for white-washing.

The Grevin Museum in Paris unveiled a life-sized waxwork of the actor and wrestling sensation on 16th October.

However, fans were immediately taken aback by the statue which seemed to make Johnson appear to have white skin.

The ‘Baywatch’ star was born in California to a black Canadian father and a Samoan mother.

The Rock himself was quick to comment on the matter. He reposted a video to his Instagram account of comedian James Andre Jefferson Jr saying the botched wax figure made him feel ‘low key offended.’

‘It looks like he works at H&R Block or something. Is this how y’all felt when you lost The little Mermaid? I understand,’ the comedian said, referencing the recent Little Mermaid film which starred Halle Bailey, a black actor, in the lead role of Ariel.

‘It looks like The Rock ain’t never seen the sun a day in his life.  It looks like The Rock is part of the royal family,’ Jefferson added.

The Rock then commented himself:

‘For the record, I’m going to have my team reach out to our friends at Grevin Museum, in Paris France so we can work at ‘updating’ my wax figure here with some important details and improvements – starting with my skin colour.’

The new wax statue was the result of a competition in which fans were asked to choose the next star to be honoured by the museum.

Johnson won (with 48% of the online poll) over Ariana Grande, Zendaya, Dua Lipa, Tom Holland, Selena Gomez, Lupita Nyong'o, Chris Pratt, Margot Robbie and Elon Musk.

The Grevin Museum said the staff has now worked to ‘remedy the skin tone’ of the wax model.

Museum director Yves Delhommeau initially said the statue's pale skin tone was the result of a ‘lighting issue.’

Delhommeau added that The Rock would visit the Grevin ‘later on to see if there are other modifications that need to be made.’
