While previous presidents may have visited Ireland with the idea of tracing their Irish roots, US President Donald Trump's visit is set to be based on the golf and more specifically, the upcoming Irish Open at his resort in Doonbeg, Co Clare.
The US President is to be welcomed by hundred of local residents and thousands of golf fans at the upcoming Amgen Irish Open at the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg. It is expected that Mr Trump will also present the trophy to the winning player on Sunday.
Mr Trump is set to land in Dublin on Saturday morning, where he will be greeted by Tánaiste Simon Harris, as he emerges from his new Air Force One, an aircraft he received from Qatar.
From there, Mr Trunp is to visit Deerfield Residence, official residency of the US Ambassador to Ireland, before heading to meet Irish President, Catherine Connolly at Áras an Uachtaráin, prior to meeting Taoiseach Micheál Martin at Farmleigh House.
A few kilometres from Trump's visit to Phoenix Park, will see tens of thousands of people gather to protest against the president, as they are set to march through Dublin, as part of the 'No Welcome For Trump', a coalition of groups from many political parties, anti war organisations and rights groups, protesting against a number of issues Mr Trump's war in the Middle East and women's rights.
They stated that they want to show solidarity with Americans, with the visit set to receive extensive coverage in the USA.
The meeting between Mr Trump and President Connolly should be an intriguing one, given that Catherine Connolly was a well known vocal opponent of war and the US's use of Shannon Airport while she was a TD. She was also outspoken in her criticism of Trump during last year's campaign.
"We have a president, Trump, who is volatile, unpredictable, acting like a bully, bringing in tariffs when it suits him", she told RTÉ television. She did also state that she would meet if the opportunity presented itself.
Mr Trunp has also expressed an interest in speaking publicly and particularly about private meetings, disagreements and the people he encounters.
