A swimmer has been found safe and well in East Clare after a coast guard received a report of a missing person in the Mountshannon Area.

On Tuesday afternoon, rescue crew teams from Killaloe Coast Guard were then deployed to find a missing swimmer in the area. This search was launched at 2pm, with an ambulance and they moved out to Mountshannon Harbour, according to reports in the Irish Independent.

Thankfully, the swimmer was found safe and well at Holy Island, before being transported back to Mountshannon. They were then left in the care of Gardaí.

“At 2pm the crew launched to a possible missing swimmer in the Mounthshannon area, R115 from Shannon was also involved in the search while a crew from the National Ambulance service also responded to Mountshannon Harbour", Killalloe Coast Guard said of the incident in a statement.

“The person was located safe and well at Holy Island and taken on board the Coast Guard vessel, the Coast Guard crew transported the person back to Mountshannon Harbour where he was left in the care of An Garda Síochána".

They added: “At 3.30pm the crew were back at base and the rescue boat was made ready for the next call".

This also comes as crews had also responded a second incident later that day, which involved a 25 foot cruiser.

In a statement, the coastguard said: “At 6.06pm the crew were tasked for a second time to assist a 25 foot cruiser with engine difficulty 1km north of Killaloe.

“The vessel with two persons on board was taken on tow back to a private marina where it was safely secured", they added. “At 7pm the crew was back at base and stood down".

News of this also comes after it was announced that Eircodes will soon be added to lifebuoy stations across the Banner County, which would help the public to find locations when getting in contact with emergency services.

This motion was filed by Sinn Féin councillor, Tommy Guilfoyle to install these Eircodes or designated areas at all stations and water-safety points at a Clare County Council meeting in June. All relevant emergency service contact numbers would also be included at these lifebuoy stations and water-safety points.

The motion was later passed, with Cllr Guilfoyle's endeavours praised by Fianna Fáil councillor, David Griffin, a man who had also brought a motion calling on all defibrillators across Ireland. It was also praised by North Clare Councillor, Joe Killeen.
