Huge crowds are expected to attend next weekend's huge busking event in Millstreet, Co Cork.

On Saturday, June 20, live music, street performances and local talent will show off their musical prowess as part of a huge celebration of sounds, at this year's Mid-Summer Busking Festival in Cork.

It will feature competitions from a number of age categories, and live performances throughout the Cork town, as well as an evening session trail in local venues.

It is also organised via a partnership between Millstreet Comhaltas and Millstreet Community Council, promoting music, creativity and community spirit.

Last year's event was hugely successful for the town, as people of all ages turned up for a day of music and entertainment.

The festival will also include a prize for best dressed window, with residents and business owners encouraged to think of local pride, music and summer fun.

Speaking to local media about this event, Senator Nicole Ryan was full of praise for the volunteers, organisers and local businesses who all got involved in this festival.

“The atmosphere throughout the town was fantastic, with musicians of all ages performing, local businesses getting involved and the entire community coming together to support the event", Senator Ryan said to The Corkman about last year's festival.

“The Millstreet Mid-Summer Busking Festival is a wonderful celebration of music, community spirit and local talent. Events like this showcase the very best of rural Ireland, bringing people together, supporting local businesses and creating opportunities for young performers to gain confidence and share their talents", she added.

“I want to commend Millstreet Comhaltas, Millstreet Community Council and the organising committee for the tremendous work that goes into delivering an event of this scale. The dedication of volunteers and the support of local businesses make festivals like this possible".

Ms Ryan also added her delight at seeing so many young musicians participating in the event.

“This demonstrates the strength of traditional music and the vibrant artistic talent we have in Millstreet and across the wider region. I am very much looking forward to seeing the festival continue to grow", she said. “I would encourage everyone to come along, support the performers, enjoy the music and help make this year’s event another memorable occasion for Millstreet".

Judging will take place throughout the festival, with bonus points awarded for musical creativity, colour and originality.
