Ursula von der Leyen is to meet up with senior members of the Irish Government in Cork later today, ahead of Ireland's presidency of the European Union.
The European Commission President is to meet with Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tánaiste Simon Harris later today, in order to discuss the programme and goals of this six month term for the presidency.
This comes as Ireland took over the Presidency of the Council of the EU, which was marked by a ceremony at Dublin Castle. The event was also attended by Ukraine's President, Voldomyr Zelensky.
Ahead of this meeting, the Government have said they are keen to focus on competitiveness values and security during its Presidency.
Several meeting are set to take place over the next two days, including one between the Taoiseach and Ms Von der Leyen, along with others between Irish ministers and European commissioners, with Mr Martin and Ms Von der Leyen set to chair a plenary session.
According to reports in RTÉ, Mr Martin said in a statement ahead of the event that these discussions would include "Ireland's work to progress the negotiations on the EU’s next long-term budget", "delivery of the One Europe One Market Roadmap objectives" and how to implement "a more integrated Single Market".
Elsewhere, the Taoiseach also said that he intends to raise "Israel’s persistent and egregious breaches of human rights and international law".
It was also confirmed that Commissioners would also visit the Tyndhall National Institute which is Ireland's largest deep tech centre, in order to speak with researchers about their work in semiconductors, advanced materials and space.
Gardaí have said that traffic delays will be kept to the minimum required. But they have advised people travelling through Cork Airport to allow for extra time due to possible temporary traffic restrictions.
The College of Commissioners which is led by the Commission President, is the political leadership of the European Commission, and consists of a commissioner from each of the 27 member states.
