IKEA has officially arrived in Galway with the opening of a new Plan and Order Point at Gateway Retail Park in Knocknacarra.
The new location is IKEA’s eighth Plan and Order Point in Ireland and its tenth store overall in the country.
The official opening was attended by Mayor of Galway Cllr Helen Ogbu and Minister Alan Dillon, as the Swedish home furnishings giant welcomed its first customers.
The Galway location features a “mini markethall” with around 250 home furnishing accessories, as well as a curated selection of 25 of IKEA’s best-selling furniture lines.
Customers can also use the store’s Click & Collect service, with up to 100 collection slots available each day.
The opening also coincides with IKEA’s latest round of lower prices, with a number of products reduced online from August 27.

Jayne Owen-Gauld, Market Manager at IKEA Ireland, said the company was pleased with the response to the new location.

Mayor of Galway Cllr Helen Ogbu also welcomed the opening, describing it as an important development for retail in the region.
“Today marks a major moment for retail in the West of Ireland, and we are delighted that Galway has been chosen as the location for IKEA’s newest Plan and Order Point,” she said.
She added that the new store would give people in Galway and surrounding areas more choice when shopping for home furnishings.
“As a city committed to innovation and sustainable growth, we are pleased to welcome IKEA’s investment in Galway and the additional choice it will bring to local customers,” she said.
“We wish IKEA Galway every success in the months and years ahead, and I have no doubt this new Plan and Order Point will be well used by people across Galway and the wider region.”
The opening marks another step in IKEA’s expansion across Ireland, giving customers in the West greater access to its range of home furnishing products and planning services.
