A courageous truck driver came to the rescue as he managed to block a wrong way driver in Co Galway this week.
In a clip of this incident which was posted on social media, the trucker acted on "instinct", which probably saved countless lives as the driver of the other car tried to exit the wrong slip road on the m18 near Oranmore. The trucker was shown blocking a slip road onto the motorway and a white car turning around and heading back in the right direction.
Thankfully, Kev managed to stop his track, turn on his hazards, before getting out of his truck to tell the driver to drive back in the right direction.
Sharing the clip on social media, KevDeTrucker had said: “Another wrong-way driver on the motorway”.
Whether the driver had travelled some distance down the motorway or if the driver had attempted a U-turn on the slip road remain unclear.
A sign for a U turn can be clearly seen in the video, showing the white car travelling in the wrong direction.
Speaking to GalwayLive, Kev said: “The white car in the video came up the motorway the wrong way initially from the Athenry side".
“I had to tell him to turn around", he added. “After alerting him with flashes, I had to physically get out of the lorry and tell him to turn around and he turned around in front of me and proceeded in the right direction as shown in the video".
News of this comes as five teenagers lost their lives following a horrific wrong way collision on the M9 in Kildare last week. More on this here.
This collision also saw a family, including three women and a seven year old child suffer serious injuries. A GoFundMe page was set up in support of their families.
