A woman originally from Brazil has been named locally following the discovery of her body at an apartment in Limerick city.

Gardaí are treating the death as murder after the woman was found at a property on Lower Cecil Street on Friday morning.

She has been identified locally as Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa, who was in her 30s.

A post-mortem examination has been completed by the State Pathologist after her body was taken to University Hospital Limerick.

Gardaí have not disclosed the results of the examination, saying this is for operational reasons.

Officers remain at the apartment complex as the scene is subjected to a technical examination. Investigators have said their enquiries are ongoing and that they are pursuing a line of inquiry.

Ms Pereira Rosa was understood to be employed by a cleaning company in the city and was known to have a number of friends in the local area.

Tributes have been paid to her following news of her death.

Local Fine Gael councillor Daniel Butler said the Brazilian community in Limerick was particularly close-knit and offered his sympathies to her family and friends.

"She is described [as a person] who was kind, friendly and bubbly and a real asset to the local community," he said.

A Garda Family Liaison Officer is now working with Ms Pereira Rosa's family.

Gardaí are appealing for information as part of the murder investigation.

Anyone who may have information that could assist officers is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212400.
