The Backstreet Boys have made an unexpected return with brand new music — but not in the way fans might have predicted. The group has debuted their latest single, “Bottle Up,” in the trailer for PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie, sparking a wave of nostalgia and surprise online.
The upbeat track features prominently in the newly released teaser, offering fans their first taste of new material from the band in several years. Soundtracking the action, the group can be heard singing “Take this moment / Bottle up this feeling” as the film’s animated heroes gear up for their latest adventure, with the catchy chorus returning throughout the short clip.
The film itself marks the latest instalment in the hugely successful PAW Patrol franchise, which has grown from a popular TV show into a global box office force.
Set for release on August 14th, the new movie follows the rescue pups as they crash land on an uncharted tropical island filled with dinosaurs after their ship is caught in a mysterious storm. There, they encounter Rex, a pup who has survived on the island for years and become an expert on its prehistoric inhabitants.
However, things quickly escalate when the pups’ longtime rival, Mayor Humdinger, begins exploiting the island’s natural resources, accidentally triggering a dormant volcano.
What follows is a series of high-stakes, dinosaur-sized rescue missions, as the team races to stop disaster and save the island from destruction.
The inclusion of new music from the Backstreet Boys has added an extra layer of buzz to the release, particularly among older fans who grew up with the group.
Formed in the 1990s, the band — made up of AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell — became one of the best-selling boy bands of all time, with hits like “I Want It That Way” and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” defining a generation of pop music.
“Bottle Up” marks their first widely released new track since their 2019 album DNA, which saw the group successfully reintroduce themselves to a modern pop audience.
While they have continued to tour and release occasional material — including recent residency shows — this latest release signals a fresh push, albeit through an unconventional platform.
The collaboration also highlights a growing trend in entertainment, where major music acts partner with family-focused franchises to reach multi-generational audiences.
In this case, the crossover feels particularly deliberate — appealing not just to children watching PAW Patrol, but also to millennial parents who grew up during the height of Backstreet Boys mania.
Alongside the musical cameo, the film boasts a star-studded voice cast, including Snoop Dogg, Mckenna Grace, Terry Crews, Jennifer Hudson, Fortune Feimster, Jameela Jamil, Paris Hilton and Bill Nye. The film is directed by Cal Brunker, who returns to the franchise following previous entries.
While it remains to be seen whether “Bottle Up” will receive a standalone release or become part of a wider project, its debut has already generated significant online reaction, with fans praising the unexpected pairing as both nostalgic and surprisingly fitting.
