Deacon Blue have announced the death of their keyboardist and co founder James Prime, who passed away aged 64.
His death was confirmed by the band yesterday, who said in a statement that he had “passed away this morning after a short struggle with cancer".
Last week, Deacon Blue had confirmed that Prime was rushed to hospital ahead of the band's upcoming tour, after being taken "seriously ill".
“Dear friends, we wanted to share some news with you about our brother, Jim,” the band said in a statement. “Unfortunately, he is seriously ill and undergoing care in hospital. We would like you to join us in wishing him well and to share your love with him".
Now, Deacon Blue have paid tribute to James Prime, releasing this new statement on social media.
"We announce with great sadness that our brother, James Prime, passed away this morning after a short struggle with cancer", they began. "Thank you so much for the messages of support that you shared over the last two weeks, they meant so much to Jim, his family and us".
"With love, Deacon Blue".
A number of household names paid tribute to James Prime, including Zoe Ball, Ricky Ross and DJ Ewan Cameron among others.
