The track appears on her latest album 'Don't Tease Me With A Good Time', the critically acclaimed project that marks a new chapter in her career, blending honest lyricism with powerful vocals. The album has been widely praised for its emotional depth, with several songs touching on themes of loss, resilience and personal growth.

Speaking about ‘I’ll Never Know Why’, Jessie J lovingly referred to the man who stood by her through some of the toughest moments of her life:

“He was my security for so many years. when i got famous, he wwas the person I'd phone and would be like 'Bro, I need to go for a walk, this is too much for me.' and he was there for me so much. he decided he didn't want to be here seven years ago. and five years ago i wrote this song. i wasn't going to include it in the album but when i played it for my team, they were like 'you have to, it's gonna help so many people’.”

The raw honesty in her words has struck a chord with listeners, many of whom have praised her willingness to open up about grief and the complex emotions that come with losing someone who was like family. Jessie J’s album — already noted for its heartfelt storytelling — uses this song to explore how people process absence and remember those who offered quiet, steadfast support during life’s most overwhelming moments.

Fans have responded to the track as one of the most affecting on the record, with many saying it resonates far beyond the context of the music industry because it deals with universally human experiences: love, loss, gratitude, and the search for meaning in memory.
