Lady Gaga leads the nominations with 12 nods and her duet partner Bruno Mars follows closely behind her with 11 nods. This years VMA's will mark the third time that Gaga has topped the nominations, she has previously done so in 2020 and in 2010. The Bad Romance singer has won 18 VMA's and is slowly climbing to the top of the VMA leaderboard. Currently Taylor Swift and Beyoncé are tied with the most VMA wins with a total of 30 wins each, both singers have recieved a nod for artist of the year.
Mars has two nominations for best music video, one for 'Die with a Smile' with Lady Gaga and one for 'APT' with ROSÉ. Mars will be the fourth artist to be nominated twice for best music video at the VMA's, following David Lee Roth, U2 and Lady Gaga.
Lamar is also among the artists who is up for best music video for 'Not Like Us'. His hit song won a total of five Grammy awards, including best music video. The american rapper has won two VMA awards for video of the year, one for his feature on Taylor Swifts 'Bad Blood' and one for his own hit 'HUMBLE'.
Lady Gaga has been nominated for artists of the year and best album for 'Mayhem'. The singer has been recently touring her album across the US with the Mayhem Ball tour. 'Die with a Smile', Mars and Gaga's collaboration is up for best song of the year, best pop, video of the year, along with best collaboration.
Rising star, Lola Young is among the first time nominees, she has recieved a nod for best new artists and best alternative song for her hit song 'Messy'.
This years award show will also include two new categories, best country and best pop artist. The MTV video music awards will take place on the 7th of September at New Yorks UBS Arena.
