Mariah Carey as reacted to the news that 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' has broken the record for the longest running single in the US.

The singer's festive hit, hit a record breaking 20th week at the summit of the Billboard Hot 100, despite being released over three decades ago. It has surpassed the joint number one runs of the previous two hits, Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’ (featuring Billy Ray Cyrus) in 2019, and Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ from last year.

Prior to Carey's exploit, Shaboozey's hit tied with Lil Nas on 19 non consecutive weeks at number on in the Hot 100.

Speaking to Billboard, Mariah Carey shared her delight at breaking this record: “It’s amazing. Honestly, it really is. I can’t lie".

“It was robbed of me,” Carey claimed when Lil Nas X reached no 1. “I was upset. But what are you gonna do?”.

Elsewhere, Mariah Carey admitted that she "had no idea" that 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' would see her regain number one: “That just became such a thing that I never could have predicted it ever, so…".

When asked about the possibility of her song reaching beyond the current 20 weeks, Carey said: “I don’t know […] At a certain point it’s not Christmas anymore, and you know, well, but I love it".

Carey went on to say that she would enjoying the Christmas time following the conclusion of her 'Christmastime In Las Vegas' residency, which finished last weekend: “So we’re doing this every night, but really I just want to be celebrating it".

Posting on Instagram, Mairah Carey said that she was "humbly taking back the torch" by breaking this record again, adding: “20 weeks at #1. I’m so grateful ❤️,”.

News of this comes after Mariah Carey was announced as one of the first headline performers for the 2026 Winter Olympic opening ceremony, which will take place on February 6 next year at Milano's San Siro Olympic Stadium.

“Ciao. Get ready for Milano Cortina 2026. See you at the Stadium San Siro on the 6th of February for the Olympic opening ceremony. Ci vediamo a Milano", Carey said on Instagram.

On this, the Olympics local organising committee released a statement to NBC, saying that Carey represents the "emotional atmosphere that accompanies the run-up to the Games".

They said: “Music is a universal language that attracts different stories and sensibilities, and intertwines with the opening ceremony’s theme of harmony".
