Robbie Williams is to perform at the FIFA World Cup final.

The former Take That singer is to join forces with Italian singer, Laura Pausini to perform their official FIFA track, Desire on the pitch of New Jersey', MetLife Stadium on July 19. The tournament's decider will feature a halftime show, the first in the World Cup's history.

“Robbie loves football and is excited to play at this momentous gig", a source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper. “Of course, he hopes England will be one of the teams in the final".

The line up for the halftime show was curated by Coldplay's Chris Martin, who has already recruited Madonna, Shakira and BTS. But one person who will not be there is Oasis' Noel Gallagher.

In an interview with Talksport, Noel Gallagher scoffed at the idea of performing at this event.

“I’m doing the half-time raffle for a leg of lamb", Gallagher joked.

He went onto to state that he is not too keen on the show in general.

“I don’t like changes in football. I’m looking forward to these new rules about corners and time-wasting, that might be a good thing for the game, but I don’t like the razzmatazz of football; it’s been functioning perfectly for hundreds of years".

He added: “They’re not really football people who are performing anyway, are they?".

Speaking of the World Cup, former Republic of Ireland captain, Roy Keane took aim to the WAGs who sit in the stands watching these games.

Sitting with Gary Neville and Ian Wright on their popular podcast show, The Overlap, Keane took aim at the wives and girlfriends of footballers who attend these games.

The term 'WAG' was initially mentioned in the British media in 2002, before catching fire during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Baden-Baden, Germany. Such partners included Victoria Beckham, Coleen Rooney and Cheryl Cole, who was married to England player, Ashley Cole at the time.

"The World Cup, when all the players' wives and families are going to the match, all the wives are in the jerseys with the players' names on the back...WOW", Keane exclaimed. "Children is fine, but the wives and partners wearing their jerseys, with their name on the back. wow".
