If you use Spotify, you probably look forward to this day every year. Spotify Wrapped is a yearly summary of your most played artists, songs, and albums. Anyone with an account, even a free one, can access the stats now.
It begins by showing how many hours you spent listening , and how many full days that adds up to. Then it highlights the range of genres you explored, including your personal top five. What makes this especially interesting is realising just how many different styles and sounds you’ve taken in without even noticing. Some of the genres include R&B, Art Pop, Oldies, Pop Rap, House, and more. If anything, Wrapped reminds us that music isn’t confined to just pop, rock, or rap; there are countless variations and sub-genres shaping what we hear.
The new “Age Is Just a Number” feature is especially fun. Spotify assigns you a “listening age” based on the era of music you played most. Mine was thirty-one, because I listened to early 2010s tracks more than anything else! It’s a creative and fun reminder that music belongs to everyone, no matter the decade.
Your top five songs is always a highlight, they're ranked from one to five, all your favourites lined up. And naturally, Spotify goes a step further by curating a personalised playlist of your top songs of 2025.
My personal favourite part, though, is the Top Five Albums section; long live the album. This shows the range of artists and projects you loved most throughout the year. Mine surprised me; it was Lily Allen's new album 'West End Girl'. I hadn't realised how much I had listened to it until my stats revealed it!
On top of that, Spotify reveals how many artists you listened to overall, before spotlighting your top five. My top genre was 'Art Pop'. To be honest, I wasn't even sure what Art Pop really meant. It's a genre of music that "combines elements of pop music with art and avant-garde influences". It is characterised by elements of experimental pop, unconventional song structures, and lyrical content. Examples of Art Pop musicians include Lady Gaga, Radiohead, David Bowie, Lana Del Rey, Fiona Apple, and Kate Bush. Get the gist? Once I realised that, the similarities between them suddenly became so clear. Lana Del Rey was my artist of the year, for the second year in a row!
Learning what my “favourite” genre actually is, made me realise what my taste in music says about me, which I absolutely love. This is a reminder to check yours, is it any different compared to last years?.. I think Spotify Wrapped is a funny reflection on the type of year that you have had.
Spotify Wrapped is a yearly reminder that music isn’t just something we listen to. We live through it, grow with it, and learn from it. It shapes us, supports us, and teaches us.
