Ticketmaster has confirmed that they have "caught" ticket touts trying to snatch up all of the Harry Styles tickets for his upcoming residency in New York.

The ticket distributing platform stated that they identified a number of fake accounts trying to buy tickets for the former One Direction singers residency.

In a statement on Ticketmaster's Instagram, they said: "We caught scalpers using multiple accounts and fake identities to try and get around ticket limits and resell tickets for profit. We’ve cancelled those tickets, none of which had been transferred to fans, and we are working with the tour to release them back to fans at the original price. It’s important for these tickets to go to real fans."

"Scalpers often target the tickets that are the lowest price and or super in-demand so they can flip them for the biggest markup. This impacts many tours and Harry’s residency was a huge target," the statement continued.

The platform originally confirmed that tickets would be priced between €43 to €111, including fees. Ticketmaster has stated that fans can request a ticket for the concert and those who do not currently hold a ticket for the New York gigs will be prioritised.

This comes recently after Olivia Dean openly criticised Ticketmaster for being "exploitative."

The singers comments came after some of her resale tickets for her North American tour were being sold for more than 14 times their original face value. She wrote an open letter to ticketing companies calling the practice "disgusting" and "vile", and urged the company to "do better".

In a statement on her Instagram page she wrote: "The secondary ticket market is an exploitative and unregulated space and we as an industry have a responsibility to protect people and our community. Every artist and their team should be granted the option to cap resale at face value ahead of [tickets going] on sale, to keep the live music space accessible for all. Thank you for your patience and I'm looking forward to seeing all you real humans at the show."

The CEO of ticketmaster responded to her letter with this statement: "We share Olivia's desire to keep live music accessible and ensure fans have the best access to affordable tickets. While we can't require other marketplaces to honour artists' resale preferences, we echo Olivia's call to 'do better' and have taken steps to lead by example."
