The body of Leitrim pensioner Liam Farrell is to be reinterred at Cloonmorris Cemetery in Bornacoola.
This comes as Mr Farrell's remains were exhumed 13 days ago for a forensic post-mortem examination, and order which was granted by Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan. The remains were taken to Dublin on April 10.
The results of this post-mortem were not disclosed at the time of writing, which forms part of a renewed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Farrell in January 2020.
Speaking about the exhumation, Detective Chief Superintendent Des McTiernan said it was an attempt to investigate the case forensically in order to get clarity on the circumstances which led to Mr Farrell's death.
This comes after the Leitrim man was found unresponsive by his family at the back of his home in the village of Rooskey, Co Leitrim on 12 January 2020.
Liam Farrell's son Brendan has said that the family are "very thankful to the Serious Crimes Review team for their ongoing work" in what he described as a live investigation.
He went on to renew his appeal to the public for any information which may help investigating officers working on the case.
"We would also appeal to anyone who may have information about the weekend of our father’s death, 12 January 2020, to please come forward to the Serious Crimes Cold Case [Review] Team", he said. "No matter how big or small, it can make a world of difference to the investigating detectives".
