Zayn Malik has revealed he was “unexpectedly recovering” in hospital on the very day his latest album dropped, forcing the singer to step back from promotional duties.
The 33-year-old shared a photo from a hospital bed on his Instagram Stories, showing himself hooked up to monitors and an IV, as he addressed fans following what he described as a difficult week.
“Been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering,” he wrote. “Heartbroken that I can’t see you all this week, I wouldn’t be in the place I am today without you guys and am so thankful for your understanding.”
The former One Direction star also took time to praise the medical team caring for him, adding: “Thank you to all the incredible hospital staff of Drs, nurses, cardiologist, management, admin and everyone who had helped along the way and continue to. You are all legends!”

The update came as his fifth studio album, ‘Konnakol’, arrived on streaming platforms. The record serves as the follow-up to 2024’s ‘Room Under the Stairs’, continuing a prolific solo run since his departure from the band in 2015.
However, the release has been overshadowed by concerns over the singer’s health.
While Zayn Malik did not disclose the nature of his illness, reports suggest he is now seeking further treatment from a leading cardiology specialist.
As a result, he has been forced to postpone a scheduled appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, along with several planned fan meet-and-greet events in New York, Boston and Baltimore. Despite this, a ‘Konnakol’ pop-up shop in New York City is still expected to go ahead, albeit without the singer in attendance.
Sources indicate that Malik is prioritising his recovery, with doctors advising him to scale back work commitments for the time being. “He’s still working through his health issues,” it has been reported, with medical guidance preventing him from carrying out scheduled appearances.
The timing is particularly significant, as the singer is due to embark on his first solo headline arena tour later this year. The ‘KONNAKOL TOUR’ is currently set to begin in Manchester on May 12, before continuing across the UK and United States through to November.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether the opening dates will be affected by his recent health setback.

Speaking previously about the new album, Zayn Malik described the project as a deeply personal evolution of his sound and identity.
“I have always drawn on my heritage for inspiration since I first started making my own music, this album is a development of that understanding, knowing more now than ever, who I am, where I come from and where I intend to go,” he said.
Reflecting on his journey a decade after his debut solo album ‘Mind of Mine’, he added: “[I’m] at a different place and point as a human. I’m developing, growing, and learning from life experiences.”
The One Direction star has been making headlines recently, for another reason...
A reported documentary following Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson has allegedly been scrapped after a serious fallout between the two singers, including claims of a physical altercation.
The project, which was said to be in development with Netflix, was first reported last October and would have followed the former One Direction bandmates on a “spontaneous adventure” across the United States as they attempted to rebuild their friendship.
The three-part series was expected to give fans a rare insight into their lives post-band and was being directed by Nicola Marsh.

However, the documentary now appears to have been shelved, with reports suggesting tensions between the pair escalated behind the scenes. According to claims published by The Sun, an alleged incident six months ago saw Malik physically strike Tomlinson during an argument.
A source claimed Malik “punched him straight in the face”, allegedly leaving Tomlinson “stunned and in shock” and requiring medical attention for a concussion after sustaining a cut to his head.
The reported dispute is said to have stemmed from a remark about Tomlinson’s mother, Johannah Deakin, who died from leukaemia in 2016 at the age of 43—a deeply sensitive subject for the singer.
While the claims remain unconfirmed, the fallout is believed to have derailed the documentary, with the streaming giant reportedly hoping the pair would reconcile before moving forward.
