Bord Gáis Energy is set to increase electricity prices for its 350,000 customers, joining other suppliers in raising costs despite some companies keeping rates steady. From October 12, unit rates will rise by 13.5% and standing charges by 12%, adding around €218 to the average annual bill.

The hike comes as energy companies face higher network costs, volatile wholesale markets, and rising operational expenses. Gas prices for Bord Gáis Energy’s 270,000 customers will remain unchanged, with the company continuing to offer the lowest gas standing charge in the market. Dual fuel customers will see an overall bill increase of 6.6%.

Pinergy will also increase electricity rates by nearly 10% from October 13, impacting its 28,000 customers and adding roughly €199 to annual bills. Residential microgeneration payments for solar users will remain at 25c per kWh.

Electric Ireland, by contrast, will keep electricity prices unchanged and will cut residential gas rates by 4% from November 1.

Other suppliers, including Energia, SSE Airtricity, and Flogas, are raising electricity prices this year, affecting around 600,000 customers in total. Energia will implement a 10.9% increase from October 9, with some tariffs rising as much as 20% and solar feed-in payments reduced.

With these increases, households are facing a challenging winter, and comparing tariffs could help manage rising energy costs.
