An investigation is underway after a man died while being held in Garda custody at a Dublin Garda station.

The man, aged in his 30s, became unresponsive in a cell on Saturday evening, Gardaí said. Emergency procedures were immediately initiated, with Garda members carrying out resuscitation efforts before paramedics and other first responders arrived to provide medical assistance.

Despite attempts to save his life, the man was pronounced dead on the scene. Gardaí confirmed that the coroner has been notified.

The incident has been referred to Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, as required under Garda protocols. In a statement, the watchdog confirmed that its investigators attended the scene after receiving the referral from An Garda Síochána.

Fiosrú said the circumstances surrounding the death are now the subject of an active investigation and, as a result, no additional information will be released at this stage.
