Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow High Temperature warning for 13 counties across Ireland.
The warning will come into effect at 1pm today. Temperatures have been forecast to reach 27C, and uncomfortable sleeping conditions are expected as overnight temperatures will exceed 15C.
Counties with the temperature warning are Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford and Cork.
The warning will remain until 7am on Sunday, according to Met Éireann.
The weather forecaster expects water safety issues due to an increase in use of beaches and lakes over the weekend of exceptionally hot weather. They also have stated that there may be heat stress, uncomfortable sleeping conditions and a possibility of forest fires.
On Thursday, Uisce Éireann issued water restrictions for Cavan town and the surrounding areas. The restrictions will remain in place until 7am on Sunday.
Peter Gallagher of Uisce Éireann told the Irish Independent that they "expect demand to remain high as we head into the weekend. These night-time restrictions on supply are necessary to ensure a continuous daytime supply for homes, businesses and essential services in the town.”
Water restrictions have also been announced for Kilkenny, Tipperary, Donegal, Cork and Meath.
The Department of Agriculture has issued a Status Orange forest fire warning, which is expected to be reviewed on Sunday.
The department's statement read: “A high fire risk is deemed to exist in all areas where hazardous fuels such as dead grasses and shrub fuels such as heather and gorse exist. Elevated fire risks are expected in all areas during this period, but will be especially focused on southern and eastern regions.”
