Ireland’s ninth Climate Action Week is set to take place from 13 to 19 October 2025, with events planned nationwide. The initiative, coordinated by An Taisce’s Climate Action Team on behalf of the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, encourages local authorities, community groups, schools, and businesses to engage in activities focused on environmental awareness and sustainability.
The week-long programme includes a range of events designed to involve people of all ages and backgrounds. Activities include workshops, clean-ups, skill-sharing sessions, and tree planting. Across Ireland, organisers have mapped over 170 events, with more being added daily.
Events this year include opportunities to learn practical skills such as knitting sustainable medicine bags for hospice patients, repairing furniture and clothing, and cooking for one while reducing waste. Sporting and outdoor activities are also planned, such as clean-up events along the Royal Canal in Dublin and tree planting in counties including Clare, Waterford, and Tipperary.
Younger participants can take part in the Young Activists Climate Café, contribute artwork to a short film called Dear Future Ireland, or attend workshops on creative ways to address climate issues. Other activities incorporate music, dance, and performance, such as Zumba sessions in Dublin and climate-themed comedy and burlesque events in Portlaoise.
Recycling and upcycling are also highlighted, with workshops on creating blankets from recycled materials and events encouraging the repair and reuse of everyday items. Swap shops, clothing exchanges, and discussions on reducing plastic use are planned in multiple locations, including Dublin, Cork, and Tramore.
An Taisce has coordinated Climate Action Week since 2017, originally as a regional programme before expanding nationwide. The initiative is part of the broader National Climate Change Action and Awareness Programme, which was developed to support the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015 and the National Mitigation Plan 2017. The programme focuses on citizen engagement and encourages collaboration between government, businesses, communities, and individuals to support Ireland’s climate goals.
