President Catherine Connolly is expected to meet with King Charles III during an official to Britain.

The President is to meet with a number of Irish community groups in London and Leeds, where she is also expected to meet with the monarch, her second overseas visit and first trip to Britain since she took office in November.

This is an official visit, which is not as formal as a State visit.

This visit, which will run for three days, is set to see President Connolly meet with local community groups and speak with the links between the two countries and the contribution of the diaspora to Britain.

President Connolly and her husband Brian McEnrery are also guests of honour at a reception which takes place at the Irish embassy in London. A wide range of representatives of the Irish Community are also set to attend this reception.

This comes as Officials pointed out that the President had committed to engage with Irish communities abroad during in inauguration speech last year.

It has also been reported that President Connolly will meet with King Charles at Buckingham Palace during this visit.

The President is also set to travel to the North of England to visit Leeds University and the city's Irish centres during this visit.

Last month, President Catherine Connolly's sister, Dr Margaret Connelly had joined a flotilla bound for Gaza. She has been a long time activist, and joined the flotilla which was bound for Gaza in order to help to deliver life saving aid. More on this story here.
