Last year was the deadliest on Irish roads in more than a decade, and the number of fatalities recorded so far in 2026 suggests that the trend is continuing.
The first fatal incident happened in Kilcock, Co Kildare, at around 10.45am.
A motorcyclist, aged in his 50s, died after being involved in a single-vehicle collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who has relevant information, to contact Naas Garda Station on 045 884 300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
A second fatal collision took place at around 8pm on the N20 at Castlewrixon, Co Cork.
The incident involved a motorcycle and a jeep driven by a man in his 80s.
The motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The jeep driver was brought to Cork University Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
The N20 has been closed while Garda forensic investigators examine the scene, and traffic is being diverted.

The third fatal crash occurred at approximately 9.10pm in Ballymagan, Co Donegal.
Two cars were involved in the collision.
The driver of one of the vehicles, a man in his 20s, died at the scene.
A passenger travelling in the same car was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The occupants of the second car, a driver and passenger both in their late teens, were also treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening
