A recent survey has found that global unrest is impacting holiday travel bookings.
Rising costs and global instability have contributed to four out of ten consumers not yet booking a holiday this year.
Q2 Travel Sentiment Survey from Click&Go Holidays found that the rising costs remain the single biggest factor influencing travel decisions. They confirmed that 68% of survey respondents have yet to book a holiday for this reason.
The nationwide survey was carried out between the 7th-9th of July and had a total of 1,068 respondents. They concluded that the majority of those planning to travel intend to book over the coming months.
The findings show that global events continue to shape consumer confidence, with 38% of respondents saying that geopolitical conflicts and broader global instability have a significant influence on their travel decisions.
56% of respondents confirmed that they intend to take a traditional sun holiday, 19% are planning a cruise and 14% are planning a city break.
2% of respondents intend to holiday within Ireland.
Click&Go Chief Executive Paul Hackett said via RTE that Irish people are "becoming increasingly strategic about when they book and how they manage their travel budget".
"Whilst the recent spell of good weather has seen a slowdown in late booking for travel in the next few weeks, the focus on booking from September onwards speaks to the fact that Irish consumers know the good weather is unlikely to last indefinitely," he added.
