The EOD was recruited to preform a controlled explosion on the device in Finglas near Northway Estate.
The Gardaí and emergency services were the first to arrive on the scene, where they subsequently cordoned off the area and evacuated nearby residents.
The EOD team attended the scene to preform the controlled explosion without any damage to houses in the area.
The cordon has been lifted and residents have been allowed return to their properties.
The garda investigation is currently underway
