A teenager has died following an e-scooter crash in Carlow Town, becoming the third person to lose their life in an e-scooter-related incident in Ireland within the past year.
The crash happened on Carpenter's Way shortly after 8.30pm on Monday, June 29. Two people—a juvenile male in his late teens and another male in his late teens—were travelling on the e-scooter when they fell.
The younger teenager sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to St. Luke's Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where he later died.
The second rider was treated and assessed at the scene. Gardaí confirmed that he did not require immediate hospital treatment.
The fatality is the third involving an e-scooter since August 2025 and the first since Christmas Day 2025.
The scene remains sealed off while Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a technical examination, and Carpenter's Way is currently closed with local traffic diversions in place.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are also asking anyone who was travelling on Carpenter's Way around the time of the incident and may have dash-cam or other camera footage to contact investigators.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Carlow Garda Station on 059 913 6620, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
