A boy in his early teens remains in critical condition after an e-bike incident in Portlaoise on Saturday night.

The crash occurred on the N80 at Stradbally Road shortly after 11pm, prompting a response from emergency services. The injured boy was travelling as a passenger on the e-bike at the time of the incident.

The rider, described as a male in his late teens, did not require hospital treatment and was medically assessed at the scene.

Authorities believe the crash did not involve any other vehicles.

Following a detailed examination by Garda forensic investigators, the road has been reopened.

An appeal has been issued for witnesses or anyone who may have information about the incident. Gardaí are especially keen to hear from motorists who travelled between St Peter & Paul’s Cemetery and St Fintan’s Hospital between 11pm and 11.30pm and who may have captured footage on dashcams or other recording devices.

Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to contact Gardaí through Portlaoise Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line, or their nearest Garda station.
