Adolescence star Stephen Graham has revealed that he lost his Golden Globe award that he won just hours after the ceremony.

Speaking with Capital Breakfast, the actor who won the award for Best Actor in a TV Mini Series at the ceremony earlier this month, explained that there was a mix up at the airport and his suitcase "didn't make the plane".

In this interview, Graham said he accidentally left his award in the US for two days while he was in Spain.

“I had to go straight from LA the day after [the Golden Globes] to Madrid as I had to be on set the next day. I had 35 minutes to catch the plane", Graham said. “As I came off the plane, a woman took me down the stairs, threw me in a car, and drove me across the runway. But all I’m thinking is, ‘my case isn’t going to make it’".

“I said, ‘excuse me, there’s no way you’re getting my suitcase on this plane if I’m in a car now’, and she was like ‘oh no, don’t worry, we’ll take care of it’", he continued. “The case didn’t make the plane and it was left in Atlanta".

When asked about what was in his suitcase, Graham replied:  “My socks, my pants, my toothbrush… and a Golden Globe", adding: “I never left it, I put it in my case – it’s heavy, I wasn’t carrying that in my hand luggage".

“Thankfully, it turned up two days after".

On the night, Adolescence won acting awards for Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty, as well as the accolade for Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture. More on this story here.

Last week, Stephen Graham stated that winning awards was not his motivation for working on the Netflix series, saying that  such recognition was "not why we do it".

It’s not a game of footy. Do you know what I mean? It’s not a competition about what we do", Graham said. "It’s subjective. It’s art. Art is subjective. It means different things to different people".

"It’s nice to be acknowledged by your peers. But ultimately, that’s not why we do it". More on this story here.
