Boy George has received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the LGBT Awards.

He was presented the honour by designer at a glamorous event at the luxurious London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square last night.

He was greeted with a standing ovation as he went up to collect the award.

He said: "This acknowledgement is a real honour. I’ve always believed in being unapologetically yourself so to be recognised in this way means a great deal to me.”

“To share the room with the inspirational other nominees has been wonderful. As a community, we know when to come together to fight for what’s right. The stories, passions and activism that I’ve witnessed tonight have been deeply moving and incredibly inspiring."

Designer Jean Paul Gaultier was on duty to present the award to Boy George and made sure to acknowledge the artist’s extraordinary contribution to music, culture and LGBT+ visibility over a career spanning more than four decades.

The evening proved to be a double triumph for the star, who also received the Music Artist of the Year award.

The accolade was presented by Loose Women panellists Jane Moore, Kaye Adams and Sunetra Sarker.

Other big winners on the night included beloved TV broadcaster and presenter Rylan who took home the gong for Broadcaster of the Year, Kate Winslet as Advocate of the Year and Alan Cumming as Celebrity of the Year.

Celebrated English screenwriter, actor playwright and author Jonathan Harvey will receive a Special Recognition honour at this year’s ceremony, celebrating his outstanding contribution to British culture and LGBTQ+ representation across stage and screen.
