Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews has been reportedly "axed" from the soap after almost four decades.
Matthews, renowned for playing Jenny Connor on the cobbles for 39 years, is said to be devastated by the decision, with reports also suggesting that she is not the only actress allegedly facing the chop.
Reports have also said that the actress effectively sealed her fate having been noticeably outspoken about the show. Last year, she had spoken of her dislike about being placed on location to fans in a Q&A session. Her departure as landlady of the Rovers Return also did not go unnoticed.
"Sal's devastated by the decision. She was central to the soap for so long as Rover's landlady, but bosses wanted to go in another direction", a source told The Sun.
The publication also pointed to her critical remarks about the show as being unhelpful. However, they did state that it was a story-led decision.
At the time of writing, no details were given regarding Sally Ann Matthews' exit from the show, however reports suggest that it will be "something exciting". It has also been reported that one in ten members of the Corrie cast are set to lose their roles, citing budget cuts.
Previously, Sally Ann Matthews made headlines last year for not being given any storylines and having large haps in her on screen appearances.
Matthews' exit comes just months after Sue Cleaver, who played Eileen Grimshaw, left the Cobbles after 25 years in the show. More on this here.
