David Beckham will be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a ceremony set to take place on 12 June, marking another milestone in the football icon’s career as the United States prepares to host matches during this year’s FIFA World Cup.
The former England captain will be joined by his wife, fashion designer and former pop star Victoria Beckham, as well as Hollywood actor Tom Cruise, who are expected to help unveil the plaque during the event in Los Angeles.
The ceremony is scheduled just hours before the first World Cup fixture on American soil, highlighting Beckham’s long-standing influence on the growth of football in the United States.
Announcing the honour, Ana Martinez of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce praised Beckham’s contribution to the sport and his cultural impact.
“David Beckham’s recognition with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in the Sports Entertainment category comes at a fitting moment as the United States prepares to host the FIFA World Cup,” Martinez said.
She added: “Beckham’s role in elevating soccer’s profile in America and his lasting influence on sports, entertainment, and global culture make this honour especially meaningful.”
Beckham enjoyed a glittering playing career spanning some of the world’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy and Paris Saint-Germain. He retired from professional football in 2013 after winning league titles in four different countries.
Since hanging up his boots, Beckham has remained a major figure in the sport through his ownership role at Inter Miami CF. Under his leadership, the club secured a landmark signing in Argentine superstar Lionel Messi and went on to claim the Major League Soccer Cup Championship last year.
Beyond football, Beckham has expanded his influence into the entertainment sector. In 2019, he co-founded Studio 99, a production company responsible for developing sports and documentary content for global audiences.
The latest recognition adds to a growing list of honours for Beckham, who was knighted by King Charles III last year for his services to sport and charitable causes.
With football’s biggest tournament returning to North America, Beckham’s induction onto Hollywood’s famous boulevard serves as a symbolic tribute to his role in helping transform the sport’s popularity across the United States.
