Do You Really Want To Hurt Me: Boy George Facing Bankruptcy Threat Over Big Payout To Ex Bandmate

Boy George is facing possible bankruptcy over a damages claim made by ex Culture Club bandmate Jon Moss for £1.75 million.

Jon Moss who served as the drummer for Culture Club and one of the band's founding members, was sacked in September 2018, which sparked a bitter legal dispute between and the remaining bandmembers, including Boy George.

Boy George whose real name is George O'Dowd, reached an out of court settlement with Moss last month, after the drummer had filed a lawsuit for loss of earnings, alleging that he was owed £188,000 in lost income according to the terms of a touring contract.

He later claimed that Boy George had tried to defraud him out of money he was owed, after touring funds were transferred to a company owned by Boy George.

These claims were dismissed by Boy George, who called them a "personal attack", insisting that they were "entirely untrue". 

"I feel I have much to be upset about but I have to the best of my knowledge removed any real hatred towards him", Boy George had said of Moss back in January. 

The courts later rejected Moss' application for an injunction to prevent Boy George selling his Hampstead home, the house was removed from the market. 

The courts were also told that Moss had spent almost £1 million in legal fees, with his lawyer Tom Weisselberg accusing the other members of Culture Club of attempting "to cause Moss to rack up as many costs in the process, with a view, it is to be inferred, to discouraging him from continuing his claim". 

Jon Moss has now applied to the London High Court for a Bankruptcy Petition against Boy George, which would see the singer's assets taken and sold to pay his debts.

Boy George and Jon Moss have yet to comment on this.

Having been involved in a romantic and turbulent relationship at the height of Culture Club's powers in the 1980s, the band and the couple had split up by 1986, with Culture Club's break up occurring amid Boy George's drug use.

In that time, the band boasted seven Top Five UK hits, including 'Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?', and six Top 10 US Hits, including 'Karma Chameleon'.
